Meet Amy Platt. Co-founder of FitFusion in San Antonio and longtime fitness lover, Amy is her clients’ biggest cheerleader. She’s motivated by their determination for results and loves the strong community FitFusion has created. Like you and me, she loves chocolate and never turns down the classic Torchy’s Tacos (and neither should you). Read all about why the SATX fitness community loves Amy.

What is your WHY?

I LOVE helping people, it is my passion. Nothing makes me happier and feel more fulfilled than seeing clients work hard, believe in themselves and conquer a workout. I have no problem teaching a 5:30am class because I want to help clients start their day feeling fantastic because of a great class! I am their biggest cheerleader. I love to motivate them to try one more push-up on their toes or squat a little lower, then go even lower…I want every one of my clients to feel amazing, get energized and be proud after any FitFusion classes. I try to make them realize they CAN do 1 minute of burpees, or go a little faster on their tabatas. My goal is for every client to walk out our doors feeling stronger physically and mentally!

Why do you teach and how did you come up with the idea for FitFusion?

FitFusion is not just a studio. It’s a sense of community. We pride ourselves on everyone knowing one another and building bonds beyond just standing by one another in class. We will have clients stay after class and socialize for what could be hours! Carpools get organized, people share recipes or simply listen to one another and give support if needed. Our goal was to create a studio where women can work out in a non- judgmental environment and establish friendships to last beyond class.

How did you first get into fitness?

I am very energetic and cannot sit still! I was involved in sports from age 4. I started soccer (amoeba ball) and continued playing soccer till I was a sophomore in college. I even played in a summer league a few years ago. I also played basketball, ran track and was on drill team. I took my first aerobics class when I was 12 and was hooked instantly. I loved the energy I got from working out in a group and I still do.

What is the best health/wellness advice you ever received?

A healthy diet and exercise go hand and hand. Years ago, I used to believe if I worked out hard for 2-3 hours, then I didn’t have to worry about what foods I was eating. Not till after having 3 children did I realize that healthy eating is KEY to being fit and feeling your best. I am not perfect and I do love me some cake and ice cream, but it’s all about balance and knowing what foods make you feel your best. I am currently following the Whole 30 plan and have learned that a few foods are not good for me and I feel so much better and energized without them in my daily meals. Not everyone is the same and it is so important to listen to YOUR body and how you feel. Pay attention to your triggers. Whether it’s sugar, processed foods, eating out or alcohol. Listen to your body and stick with the foods that make you feel the best.

What is your favorite workout to do when you are not teaching?

Taking a fellow FitFusion instructor’s class or walking my big and crazy dogs, which is a hard workout in itself!

What is the last song you listened to on Spotify?

Whatever It Takes by Imagine Dragons

What is the best thing in your fridge right now?

Big bowl of fresh blackberries, blueberries and raspberries!

What is your go-to pre or post-workout snack?

I teach super early most morning, so my go to pre-workout is water and Celsius energy drinks! Post workout I eat scrambled eggs with pico, avocado and salsa with an ice cold Topo Chico!

What is your fave splurge?

Torchy’s Tacos chips and queso and a “Democrat” taco with hot sauce! I love anything chocolate and cold Reese PB cups never disappoint!

Where do you get your health/wellness information?

I love Instagram and have several health enthusiasts that I follow. I also love Pinterest and I’m on it a lot, especially for recipes! I get most of my information right from clients at the studio. Our clients are doctors, nurses, teachers, VP of companies, entrepreneurs, therapists, designers, nutritionists and moms. We are constantly reaching out to one another for advice and help, it’s so great!

Favorite way to unwind after a long day/week?

I have 3 very active children, Jake 15, Libby, 13, and Luke, 12. I cannot unwind till the last carpool, game or homework assignment is done. Once I can relax, my “go to guilty pleasure” is watching reality TV, Real Housewives being my favorite!

If this wasn’t your job, what would you be pursuing?

If FitFusion didn’t exist, I would be a pursuing my nursing degree or teaching elementary school.
