We’ve all been there. So bored with your workout that you will do almost ANYTHING to get out of going to the gym. And if you do make it there, you may be so unmotivated that you’ll just invent a whole new way of working out just to entertain yourself in hopes of burning a few calories to make up for that wine you had last night.

Aside from just shear boredom, doing the same workout routine over and over again isn’t as effective for you physically. “The more you do a single type of workout, the easier it becomes,” says certified personal trainer Nick Tumminello. “During exercise, you’re putting a stress on your body, and during your recovery, your body is improving its ability to handle that stress. The result: You burn fewer calories and build less calorie-torching muscle with every workout. ”

So here are the top 5 reasons you should switch up your workout routine regularly:

1. Avoid a Scale Plateau.

Women’s Health Magazine suggests following the F.I.T.T. principle (Frequency, Intensity, Time and Type).  When you switch 2 of these every 4 weeks, then you will continue to see results. So, after a few weeks of just doing spin classes, switch it up and do a spin class + yoga class. Keep those muscles guessing!

2. Build Lean Muscle.

We all know that muscle weighs more than fat. Which is why the scale shouldn’t be your only success meter! By switching up your workouts and hopping around to a variety of classes you’ll tone all your muscle groups.

3. Keep it Interesting.

Just like we mentioned above, workout boredom is THE WORST. And the best way to avoid it is by adding variety into your routine. In addition, switching things up will also help keep you trying your hardest. The challenge of learning a new workout always keeps us motivated!  Because we all need a little extra motivation sometimes. #amiright

4. Get Stronger Faster.

By working more muscle groups in the different classes, you’ll find yourself able to CRUSH those workouts. A new workout won’t be as intimidating because you’re confidence levels will be through the roof.

5. Stay Committed.

We’ve heard time and time again from StudioHoppers how they have been able to actually stay committed to their fitness goals because they have variety. With the ability to easily try something new and fresh, build your own workout schedule and have a huge network of fellow fitness supporters hopping to classes too, sticking with it for the long haul is easy.
